ObjectivesThe Web Community aims to offer a Web interface to assist the growth of the international network of migration institutions, to support the activities of migration museums and to facilitate the interactions among them.
Considering the long-term and multi-faceted character of the project, we can distinguish two main steps of development.
Initially and at a first level, the Migration Museum Web Community will be addressed to professionals. Therefore, the first-priority objectives are the following:
1. Guarantee a continuous and productive dialog among professionals all over the world by offering interactive tools that may reduce distance barriers.
2. Provide contents in different languages in order to deal with linguistic diversity (since the very beginning the whole website will be translated at least in two languages).
3. Favor the exchange of experiences, best practices and learned lessons in order to increase museums quality, especially in the protection of tangible and intangible heritage
4. Support the emergence of a cross-cultural and world-wide approach to migration museum issues.
5. Improve the research on migration processes.
6. Help institutions willing to create new migration museums.
7. Bridge the gap between academic research and the museums experience about migration problems.
Later on and at a second level, the Web Community shall open to the widest audience including the general public, the schools and, above all, the migrants. According to this goal the objectives of the Web Community will include
1. Encourage visitors to contribute to the activities of the museums, thorough interactive tools available inside the museums (by means of workstations) or at home thorough the website.
2. Favor the sharing of migrant experiences all over the world.
3. Support the organization of shared events in several museums.
4. Increase the public awareness about the existence, the mission and the activities of migration museums.
5. Offering a possibility of virtual participation to people that cannot visit the museum.
6. Support the communication and marketing strategies of the museums in order to attract a wider public.
7. Encourage modifications in perceptions, behaviors and attitude toward the foreigners.
8. Facilitate social integration of migrants while preserving the cultural diversity.
