2008: European Year of the Intercultural Dialogue
The European Commission declared 2008 the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue – giving the floor to nearly 800 events in 27 European countries, to mobilize civil society at European, national and local levels, around culture, education, youth, sport and citizenship.
The Migration Museum Network is willing to take part in this remarkable initiative and several of its members have already begun the organization of a series of events and meetings. Here are some of them.
France

Portugal
The Museu da Emigração e das Comunidades (Fafe) is organizing two consecutives events entitled ‘Intercultural Dialogue: Identity and Double Territory’ (13-14 March) and ‘Emigration, Archives and Memory’ (15-19 March), in Fafe, Portugal. The events will gather participants from Portuguese-speaking countries, including Portugal, Brazil, Cap-Verde and Mozambique. Lectures will be followed with concerts and of movies.Furthermore, from the 7 to the 11 of April, the Museum of Fafe is organizing a week of lectures and movie screenings in collaboration with Fafe High School (click here for more information).

Spain

Sant Adrià de BesòsBeyond the opportunity of visibility offered by the European Year of the Intercultural Dialogue, the Conference “The immigration museums facing the interculturality questions. Reflection, strategy and exchange for the definition of a citizen museology” is an opportunity for the Immigration Museums from around the world to get in touch and exchange experiences, and should allow knowledge, learning and debate around some basic topics from the cultural and social agenda from a museologic perspective.



As the main topic for the presentation at the Annual Meeting of AEMI (29 September-3 October 2010, Bilbao, Spain) “Migration Studies and ICTs” has been proposed for the call of papers. Deadline: May 25, 2010.
The Histories of Home Subject Specialist Network’s Second Annual Conference, Multiple Belongings: Diaspora and Transnational Homes will take place on Friday 21 May at the British Library Conference Centre in London and will bring together academics, museum professionals, librarians and archivists. Booking deadline: Friday 14th May.
