FIERI
The Association operates on a regional, national, European, and international scale. Its aim is to understand migration phenomena and the policies to incorporate the immigrants and the new minorities, paying particular attention to the reality of the various regions and to the international and European constraints. A particular emphasis is given to the comparative analysis and evaluation of public policies.
In particular:
a) it promotes the formation of an inter-university research-centre on immigration in Italy and of a European and international network made up of experts and research centres specialised in immigration, in new minorities and in asylum;
b) organises research, conferences, conventions, targeted seminars;
c) organises high level training;
d) promotes editorial initiative;
e) supplies documentation, information and services to single citizens, associations and public bodies.
With this aim it promotes also collaborations and common structures with other associations or public bodies.
The research is organized in five main areas:
- Transnazionalism and networks
- citizenship
- policies and policy making
- labour market
- integration
FIERI organizes events and seminars. Moreover, it produces several publications.

As the main topic for the presentation at the Annual Meeting of AEMI (29 September-3 October 2010, Bilbao, Spain) “Migration Studies and ICTs” has been proposed for the call of papers. Deadline: May 25, 2010.
The Histories of Home Subject Specialist Network’s Second Annual Conference, Multiple Belongings: Diaspora and Transnational Homes will take place on Friday 21 May at the British Library Conference Centre in London and will bring together academics, museum professionals, librarians and archivists.
